Valentine's Day
Lunch

Don’t send your
child to school with a regular lunch on Valentine’s Day.
Instead of packing the same regular old lunch bag,
surprise him or her with a special homemade lunch bag.
Even though this day is typically seen as a ladies day
filled with hearts and presents, boys will also love the
gesture. I’d like to share with you some simple
instructions to jazz up a lunch bag and it can be adapted
to suit either a boy or
girl.
If they often use
a lunchbox, try using a lunch sack instead. You may even
try finding a gift bag that suits the day. Write their
name in big letters on the bag and put Valentine’s Day
stickers all over it. You can also use print outs from
the internet or make your own hearts and roses to attach
to the bag as well. You don’t have to make it
professional but do try to do a good job. After all, your
child’s teachers will also notice this change of
style.
As I mentioned
before, you don’t want to pack the same old thing. On
Valentine’s Day you should try to prepare foods that are
pink or red in color. A strawberry milkshake in a red
thermos or a strawberry milk box will be a perfect drink.
Children love milk and if it’s a bit sweet with
strawberry they won’t even think twice about drinking it.
If your child loves to eat sandwiches you can prepare
them normally and using a cookie cutter, cut them in to
heart shapes. To add a bit of color to the bread you can
add a bit of red food coloring mixed with water. The best
way to apply it would be by using a spray bottle from the
dollar store. Make sure you work over the kitchen sink,
change the spray to mist, and watch their sandwich turn
to a lovely new color.
You can also try
cutting other foods in heart shapes. If you are skilled
enough, you can make some tomato roses to go along with
it. Buying a plastic heart mould for Jell-O and pudding
is another great way to add some Valentine’s Day essence.
Some fresh strawberries to dip in the pudding will make a
great dessert as well. If you are ambitious enough,
making cupcakes with pink frosting will put a smile on
just about anyone’s face. If you aren’t able to do a lot
of baking then the grocery store usually has similar
items around this time of year. A healthier choice would
be to put some strawberry cream cheese between some gram
crackers.
In the sack or
gift bag include a large pink napkin for a table cloth.
Include any plastic utensils that will be needed and
write small messages on them. You can bundle these up
with a ribbon and put in the
bag.
After you have
everything together and ready to go. Why not fishing up
with more ribbons and hearts to close the bag? If at all
possible you should hide the whole project in their
backpack and they will be surprised when they get to
school. This will not only surprise them, but their
teachers and classmates as well. When they come home,
they will surely have a big smile and a lot to say about
your special gift.
