A lot of people get tired after eating a big meal. Unfortunately, even more people become tired about 2 hours after they’ve eaten lunch. The loss of energy and focus most always disrupts you from being productive. But, we hope to help you combat this problem so you can stay on top of your game in the home stretch before the workday finishes.

When you start feeling tired in the afternoon, it is often a sign that your body is trying to digest your lunch. Unfortunately, human biology has us set to sleep during the mid afternoon and just before midnight. What’s worse is that these feelings always happen at work.

But let’s look at a few ideas on not get tired after eating:

1.    The best place to start is to have a regular sleeping schedule. Most people become drowsy during the day because they didn’t get enough sleep the night before. A lot of us end up reading or watching TV before bed to help us relax and drift off. But isn’t it funny that if we weren’t so tired during the day time we could have done all that and more? So let’s start sleeping on a regular schedule. Another problem people have is turning their bedrooms in to their workspace. This is a bad idea as your bedroom is supposed to be a place of relaxation and not a working room. Everyone’s body needs different amounts of sleep but it is suggested to stick around the 8 hour mark. This sleep should be uninterrupted as you need to get in to a deep sleep or an extended period of time to be recharged.

2.    It’s almost impossible not to hear that we should exercise more. But think about it. The more out of shape you become, the harder it is and more energy it takes to stay awake. Not only that, but your organs have to work twice as hard because they have become weak. We aren’t recommending that you hit the gym 5 days a week. Some regular cardio a few times a week should be good. A 20 minute jog every couple of days keeps us in great shape.

3.    There is a lot to the art of meditation. After you’ve eaten your lunch, your body needs oxygen to help the digestion process. Good breathing techniques alone can help increase your energy levels. The best part is that you can do it while you’re on break at work. The goal is to really focus on each breath as it goes in and out. Breath deeply and slowly, allowing your lungs to be filled with fresh air.

Aside from these 3 tips, you should also consider taking up some sort of sport or exercise group. Local baseball teams are always looking for people to join and they recognize that you won’t be able to make every game. Playing baseball is not only fun but you get one heck of a workout with out really realizing it. We hope that you follow this advice and taking control of your health. Once you’ve mastered how not to get tired after eating you will never go back to a sedentary lifestyle.
