Lunch time is one of the biggest times when we tend to eat unhealthy. We are often oh so busy that we have no time to eat healthy. But there are many ways to cut down on your caloric intake at lunch time. Let me show 10 ways to cut about 100 calories at lunch.

1.    Replace 60g of cheese with a low fat cheese spread. Not only will you save calories you will also save money. A block of cheese can cost upwards of $8 where a tub of low fat cheese spread may cost only $4 or $5.

2.    Did you know that hummus is actually quite fattening? Try some tzatkiki instead for your pita or vegetable snacks.

3.    Get rid of the mayo! A couple tablespoons of mayonnaise are well over 100 calories. Try using a squeeze of lemon juice or mustard instead.

4.    Skip the stuffed potato for some chili and beans. If you’re having a salad for lunch, pass on the croutons which easily add up to well over 100 calories.

5.    Caesar salad dressing is a big culprit for extra calories. A person usually adds an extra 300-400 calories by this alone. So much for a healthy salad.

6.    If you eat yogurt, switch to a low fat instead. This is so simple and the taste isn’t that noticeable as you may think. If you are really hard pressed to switch, add some fresh fruit.

7.    If you always have sandwiches for lunch, try using a whole wheat bread and only using one slice per sandwich. This can easily save 100 calories and leave space for more healthy foods.

8.    Stop drinking soda, concentrated fruit juices, tea or coffee loaded with sugar. Instead have a green or herbal tea, water, or a watered down sports drink.

9.    Using a balsamic or vinegar based dressing will easily save you 100 calories.

10.  Any type of cakes, rolls, or creams for dessert can either be halved or gotten rid of completely. Instead try some sweet fruits that are in season or skip dessert all together.

These small changes to your lunch can be implemented right away and you will be on your way to a healthier life style.
