Starting a Lunch Club

If you’re anything like me, eating the same lunches again and again is boring. Not to mention, microwaving food
and boiling water for cup noodles can be a bit of a pain. Eating out a restaurant is usually not an option since we
have little time and to eat healthy seems impossible. But what if we could change that? What if I told you that
there is a way to have a great lunch with minimal effort? Well then you will be surprised at how beneficial an
office lunch club can be.
If you have a kitchen at your workplace or school, then it makes things even easier. But the first thing you
need to do is find some co-workers who like to eat the same things that you do. There is no point in recruiting
people who eat things you don’t like because it will only make you miserable on those lunch days. Once you have
group of people together, you will need to decide how many days the lunch club will provide meals and which days
they will be on. After that you will need to choose who does what and when. If for example, you have 8 people, you
can use Fridays as your lunch day and you will only need to prepare food once every 8 weeks. This means that you
don’t have to provide a Friday lunch for 7 weeks. The downside is that when it’s your turn, you will have to
provide for all 8 people. However, once you try this you will understand that the effort is well worth it.
Dangers of Lunch Clubs
1. People may not like the food you like and some people may have allergies or reactions to certain foods.
2. You should always be prepared in case someone is sick. There are plenty of non-perishable options that you
can keep in your desk or locker. However, if you just don’t feel like cooking that week then you should make
arrangements with someone else in the group.
3. Not everyone will be able to eat lunch at the same time, so it is best to try and arrange some sort of
schedule that will include everything. You don’t want to be leaving people with cold lunches if they are supposed
to be hot.
4. Just because you might not eat very much, be considerate of others in the group. It is always best to prepare
too much then not have enough.
When you have a chance to get the group together, talk about and write down your favorite lunch dishes. You can
pick themes that revolve around certain ethnicities or around a weight loss plan. Sometimes people just want to be
surprised. The important factor is that you need to be flexible and considerate. Once the group is familiar with
how things run and you’ve got some experience, this will be a very pleasurable part of your work days.
The possibilities of having an office club are only limited by those who are in it. You can not only establish a
better relationship with your coworkers but new friendships as well. You may even learn more about them and that in
turn can help you work better together. So bring it up at work and see what others think.
